Results of David & Lulubelle Christmas Card Contest

Thanks to all who sent Lulubelle and me a Christmas card this year. Like handwritten correspondence, I am afraid that the tradition of sending a holiday greeting to our friends and relatives will not be around for the next generation to enjoy. I still enjoy sending and receiving them.

The winners of the best homemade card were my grandchildren Ashleigh and Nicholas. Granddaughter Alissa gets runner up for sending a copy of her outstanding GPA from her first semester of college.

In the electronic category, artist Dawn Gwinn of Santa Fe wins hands down with a well-done photographic collage of her menagerie of farm animals.

The best commercial card was from long-time friend and business associate Wanda Rohm of Presto Printing that has a thumbnail picture of each employee on an ornament.

The special interest award goes to cousins Cleone and Eleanor Markwell of Casey, Illinois. A pilot for many years, Cleone sends a card with a plane like his, flying over a snow covered community that is neatly decorated in holiday lights.

Jack and Karen Blanchette of Bulverde win the photo card award, with a close runner up of the Puryear family of Fitzhugh, Texas. Lots of photo cards this year.

Most patriotic card honors goes to Ed and Robin Butler of Bulverde. The card has a waving American flag encircled in a wreath—most appropriate as Ed is this year’s incoming President-General of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

The grand prize winner is (drum roll here) Debbie Bell and her dog Penn for a three-dimensional card with 3 stockings attached complete with gold ribbon. Truly a one-of-a-kind card like I have never seen before. On the back of card it says the artist is Jill Ankrom licensed by Penny Lane Publishing, Inc.

I will now file the 2008 Christmas cards away and look forward to next years contest entries.

    David,

I’m afraid you’re right. I miss handwritten notes and handmade cards.

  • Hi! I think it’s so great that you’re encouraging the young people to make and write their own Christmas cards. With the Internet this is a practice that could disappear someday! Thanks, David

Just send a Christmas card to Lulubelle and me, and you’ll be in the contest if we do it again.
