Sharing Family History with Cousins I Didn’t Know I Had
Even when I wasn’t actively blogging, I had people visit the blog and leave comments.
One of those visitors was Becky Van Cleve. She was doing research on Lorenzo Van Cleve and his wife Margaret Smith Cleve, her husband John’s ancestors. An Internet search led her to my post Oops! A Lesson Learned, in which I talked about my ancestor Lorenzo Van Cleve. She left me a comment, and we started to communicate in e-mail.
It turns out that John and I share the same great-great-grandfather. Becky and John live about fifty miles from me. They have lots of documentation on the Van Cleve line that I don’t have and vice-versa. So we’re getting together soon to get acquainted and share information.
The Van Cleves will come into The Westward Sagas in the third book, Rebeckah, so I will probably cut down my research time for that book having access to John and Becky’s information.
I’m glad to get the information they have to share, but I’m even more excited to get acquainted with long-lost cousins I’ve never met.

Hello David,
By chance I found your website and read an account of your contact with my cousin, Becky Van Cleve and her husband, John. This lead me to read further and read the account of Lorenzo Van Cleve and his association with the original capitol building in Austin, TX. I am curious to know if this Lorenzo was related to my grandfather who had a brother named was Lorenzo Dow Van Cleve(not born until 1872). My grandfather (also Becky’s grandfather) was Caswell Van Cleve, Sr., and my father was Caswell Van Cleve, Jr., an older brother to Becky’s father. I still visit with and talk to Becky’s father, my Uncle Jack, as often as we can manage and am always eager to learn more about our family. If I can assist you with any family history, let me know and I will give it my best shot.
Best regards,
Jeannette Emmons

All the members you mentioned are descendents of Lorenzo Dow Van Cleve, a well known Texas family. It is so great to meet another cousin and I’ll be sending more information to your private email.

Don,
Thanks for your comment and information. I’m in Tennessee right now launching Adam’s Daughters, the second book in the Westward Sagas. I’ll look into this when I return home. I saved the phone number though I removed it from the public posting for privacy.
